Soup Swap Recipe: Anna, Jeff and Papa Bear’s Lentil Soup

Sunday, January 30th, 2011
My cousin Anna and her husband Jeff brought this amazing soup to our swap.  Everybody loved it, especially the people who are pregnant or just learning to eat solids.  It apparently blew the babies’ minds.

Its so easy too.  Two guests have already made it for themselves.

Anna, Jeff and Papa Bear’s Lentil Soup

1 qt Vegetable stock
1 qt Water
1 lb Dried lentils, washed and picked over
2 medium Potatoes, peeled and diced
2 medium Onions, diced
2 Tomatoes, peeled, seeded and quartered
2 large Carrotspeeled and diced
3 Cloves of Garlic, minced
1 tsp dried Oregano
1/2 c Olive oil
Salt and Pepper to taste

In a large pot, bring soup stock and water to a boil. Add all the other ingredients at once.

Bring to a boil; continue boiling for 15 minutes. Then simmer over low heat for hour and it’s done.

Ta Da!  Delicious!

(Not Quite) Wordless Wednesday: Ditch / skip the sippy cup

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Recently over on Twitter, Amy from Hearts into Home was asking about skipping the sippy cup.  So I thought I’d share a few photos of Becca and her mad cup skills.

You can google why you’d want to skip one as I don’t really feel like hosting another round of the great sippy debate here.  I’d just want to share this to demonstrate that it is totally possible to move straight from breast or bottle to a cup.  Feel free to add your experience to the comments.

We have used one here and there, mainly when we’re at someone’s house where spilling will equal screaming but generally Rebecca has used a cup.  We sometimes use a straw for fun and have some unbreakable silicone ones, but what she likes best is this little vintage juice glass with cherries.
A shot glass works well too and its helpful to just start with a bit at a time and have them help mop up any spills with a dish cloth.

Homemade pickles and local apple cider
Lots of dipping

She’s saying mmmm…

Almost Wordless Wednesday: Almost the Last Harvest of the year

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010
Here are the left overs from cleaning up the front yard garden; a few cucumbers including one little crystal apple cucumber and a ton of mainly-green tomatoes.  I’ll keep them around for a few days to admire, we’ll see what else ripens, then I’m going to try some of Gayla’s Roasted Green Tomatoes.
After all that yard work, we had a nice lunch, baby-led weaning style, with the new unsmashable kinderville cup.
This last photo is of mystery squash that grew in my mother’s compost. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Wordless Wednesday: Rebecca meets Eggplant

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

This is what I am contending with when I try and take product shots for Etsy.  I think the baby led weaning has something to do with it.

Hmmm, what do we have here?

Don’t mind if I do.
Delicious!

These are great!
And they match my dress!

How about we have some watermelon instead?

Ryan and I aren’t normally huge fans of eggplant but I grilled them up for dinner and she ate every last bit.  Thankfully I had already gotten some good shots: Snowy White Eggplant and Little Fingers Eggplant.
