In celebration of Canadian Thanksgiving we harvested and shared the last of our carrots from the garden with my family. My soil is mainly sand, which may be terrible for tomatoes but it certainly makes good carrots. This year we had great luck growing a rainbow of carrots; white, yellow, red, orange and purple. Â Rebecca really likes watching me pull them out of the ground but is afraid to do it herself.
Regarding the title, please see this great post regarding garden porn from you grow girl, circa 2003. Safe for work, I promise.

Wow, I love all the colors! Who new carrots could be so beautiful? Are the red ones a special variety?

From my archives:
Purple carrots are an excellent example of an heirloom variety. Like other fruits & vegetables, there once was a greater variety of carrots available. Historically carrots grew in purple and yellow shades, with the preference for orange developing in 17th century Netherlands as a patriotic symbol of the Dutch struggle for independence.
